All You Wanted to Know About Asbestos Removal Cost

By Molly Owen In Asbestos, Knowledge

Asbestos removal cost could be a considerable expense. However, considering the health risks of exposure to and inhalation of asbestos particles, asbestos removal cost is a necessary expenditure. People who are residing in residential buildings constructed before 1970s may have to incur asbestos removal costs for protecting them and their families against the risk of possible asbestos related diseases.

Asbestos removal cost has become an unnecessary burden for house owners because asbestos was widely used in building materials until 1970s. Asbestos materials included roofing, shingles, wall and floor tiles, insulation materials, gaskets and pipes. Some people are of the opinion that asbestos poses a health risk only for asbestos industrial workers and asbestos removal cost is an unnecessary expense. However, research has proved that there are no safe levels of asbestos exposure and inhalation of even a single particle can result in asbestosis, mesothelioma cancers and asbestos lung cancers.

Factors that Influence Asbestos Removal Cost

There is no set formula to calculate asbestos removal cost because it depends upon many variables. Some factors influencing asbestos removal cost are size of building, type of construction, extent of asbestos material usage, status of asbestos material and removal procedure. Asbestos removal costs are not a stand-alone expense because you may have to get an asbestos survey and assessment before undertaking asbestos removal.

Many companies are offering comprehensive asbestos abatement and removal services as a part of single asbestos abatement contract. Normally asbestos removal costs are in the range for $2.50 per square foot. This means that the asbestos removal cost for a 5,000 square foot house will be $12,500. This includes the cost for asbestos survey, asbestos abatement and removal of asbestos materials. In addition to asbestos removal cost, you may have to shell out asbestos-removal permit fee for removing asbestos shingles and roofing materials. This permit fee is generally 1% of the contract amount. You will have to bear the asbestos removal cost on your own because there are no federal grants for asbestos removal from private residential buildings.
